black fumes in
a gentle morning breeze
among white gums
smoke rises from
an old forty-four gallon drum
in the schoolyard
monochromatic mutt
sniffs the veranda
looking for tucker
hopping on three
one paw off the poor thing
this community
a million miles from
land mines and war
